A new article by SDAC Lecturer Prof. Dr. Tijo Salverda has been published in American Ethnologist. The article examines the often-overlooked role of payment in ethnographic fieldwork, arguing that monetary exchanges between researchers and participants should be openly discussed as a fundamental methodological and ethical issue. By challenging the longstanding taboo surrounding payment, the study highlights the importance of reciprocity and equitable research practices in contemporary anthropology.
