The elite study program “Standards of Decision-Making Across Cultures” (SDAC) will be funded for another five years beginning from October 2022. This extension is the result of a successful expert review by the Elitenetzwerk Bayern (ENB) of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts.

“SDAC” is a cultural studies-oriented interdisciplinary master’s program with a regional focus on East and Southeast Asian societies. Subject components include cultural and social anthropology, sociology, history, philosophy, political science, economics, and China- and Southeast Asia-related “area studies.” The English-language program is highly international, with approximately 70 to 80 percent of students coming from abroad. Students enjoy excellent support services and benefit from research-oriented teaching and strong international collaborations. The review panel praised the program’s subject matter as “original, innovative, and challenging.” They also noted that the interdisciplinary nature, international presence, and the highest academic standards expected are “ensured to a high degree.” Highlighted as “particularly impressive” was “the enthusiasm and commitment of the lecturers and staff of the study program, which is reflected in the students’ statements.”
